February 2nd is La Chandeleur - so crepes at Les Belles Saveurs!
Deel
February 2nd is La Chandeleur in France; the traditional pancake festival!
The feast, 39 days after Christmas, marks the moment when the days start to get longer again.
In the Netherlands, this feast is called Maria Lichtmis (Candlemas), or also the feast of candles. This is because in ancient Rome, during this festival, candles were lit for the goddess of harvest and fertility; "la festa candelarum", after the Latin word for candle; candela, or chandelle in French.
During this French family celebration, many households make crêpes on February 2nd, traditionally as a request for a good harvest in the coming year.
If you toss a crêpe in the pan with your right hand and catch it, with a coin in your left hand, you will have a fortunate year. Try it out!
We have everything to make the most delicious crêpes; flour, milk, butter, flavorings.
And traditionally, cider should not be missing either.
